Meet Dr Kieran McCarthy
Dr Kieran is one of the owners of GO2 Health, which currently offers medical, specialist and allied health services to over 5,000 contemporary veterans. He is an actively practising General Practitioner and ex-military special operations medical doctor, who has had five operational deployments overseas. In this role, Kieran was responsible for the medical management and rehabilitation of our wounded soldiers.
As a ‘contemporary veteran’ himself, Kieran has witnessed the life-altering collateral damage that can be created by serving in the defence forces. He has also seen first-hand the overwhelming demand for medical and allied health services that has resulted in long wait lists for veterans to receive the support that they need.
When veterans return to civilian life they lose that sense of connection, responsibility, trust and comradery that is found within the military environment. Their daily lives may suddenly look very different without the disciplined structure of their former world. There’s also the reality that the complex experiences of service and deployment can no longer be adequately understood by those around them, leaving a sense of isolation and alienation from loved ones.
This is what drives Dr Kieran and the REFORGE veteran care team in their mission to better support veterans and their families. Armed with his own lived experiences, his medical knowledge and practice, as well as his patient navigation of the systemic barriers to accessing effective veteran care, Kieran is unwavering in his outcomes-focused passion to improve the quality of life for this unique cohort.
